We’re excited to announce the return of the 21st Annual Light A Moose Radiothon, Presented by Chances Casino, from November 20th to 22nd. This year, we where we’ll be broadcasting live from outside the casino, bringing the community together to raise funds for a critical cause: improved patient care at the Fort St. John Hospital.

This Year’s Goal: $150,000 for a New MALDI Machine

Our fundraising goal this year is set at $150,000 to equip the Fort St. John Hospital with a MALDI Machine—a cutting-edge piece of technology that will significantly enhance lab efficiency and speed up patient diagnosis and treatment. This machine will enable the hospital to swiftly identify various pathogens (bacteria, fungi, etc.), allowing for targeted antibiotic treatments tailored to each patient’s needs. 

Why the MALDI Machine Matters

Each year, the FSJ Hospital Lab processes over 18,000 samples. Currently, without a MALDI machine, pathogen identification can take several days. This wait time delays the ability to prescribe the most effective antibiotics, which is essential to a faster recovery. With a MALDI Machine, lab technicians will be able to identify infections much faster—often within minutes to hours. This rapid identification means that doctors can more quickly prescribe the right antibiotics, helping patients recover sooner and reducing the risk of complications.
